Andøya & Lofoten | Norway 2020
Travel destinations and therefore photo opportunities had been a rare thing back then in 2020 when out of a sudden Norway, one of the European countries with the harshest restrictions when it came to dealing with the Corona pandemic, decided to reopen to us Germans in the mid of July.
The story is: Me and my friend just succeeded to get back our cash from our original booking with now grounded Norwegian Air. Also, our Airbnb had cancelled our booking due to the “uncertainty of the Corona virus”. So, when Norway surprisingly waved “Hey you!” we were without flight tickets, accommodation and any plans, but only for about 30 minutes.
When passing the “Ankomst” sign at Harstad/Narvik Airport (minus my backpack but that’s a different story) on July 19th, it was the beginning of one of the most memorable weeks of my life. We had succeeded to book tickets with SAS and a series of hotels that agreed for us, being the first foreign tourists for months on Lofoten which led into a little series of exciting upgrades.
Within the next days we captured fantastic places like Andenes, Bleik, Stø, Klø, not to forget: Å i Lofoten - the first entry in a worlds towns directory - and the famous Henningsvær football ground on camera. We climbed Festvågtind and beyond that some enjoyable bar stools, having the most expensive pints ever.

Im Sommer 2020 waren fotogene Reiseziele durch die Coronapandemie rar geworden. Anfang Juli – es war mir und meinem Freund gerade erst gelungen, die Erstattung der Flugtickets für die geplante Norwegenreise durch die in erhebliche wirtschaftliche Schwierigkeiten geratene Norwegian Air durchzusetzen – lockerte Norwegen seine Einreiseregeln für Deutsche überraschenderweise so, dass Lofoten für uns plötzlich wieder greifbar erschienen. Binnen einer halben Stunde buchten wir Flüge mit SAS, Mietwagen und Hotels.
Als wir am 19. Juli das „Ankomst“-Zeichen des Flughafens Harstad/Narvik passierten (was nicht für mein Reisegepäck galt, doch das ist eine andere Geschichte), war das der Beginn einer der unvergesslichsten Wochen meines Lebens. Tatsächlich gehörten wir zu den ersten Touristen nach Grenzöffnung, was zu einer freizügigen Upgradepolitik an den Rezeptionen der Herbergen führte.
Mit meiner Kamera verewigte ich fantastische Orte wie Andenes, Bleik, Stø, Klø, Å i Lofoten - das in einem Lexikon aller Ortschaften der Welt immer an erster Stelle steht - und das dank des National Geographic Magazine fast schon berühmte Henningsvær Fußballstadion. Ich fand mich auf dem Gipfel des Festvågtind und auf den Barhockern einiger für europäische Verhältnisse unfassbar teuren Bars.
